Watles Mountain in South Tyrol, Italy

When I was growing up in Germany we used to go skiing on the Watles, but it wasn’t until I returned with my own children last week that I realized this mountain is just as much fun in the summer!

Follow the signs for “Watles” from the village of Burgeis. It is a beautiful 20 minute ride over a winding mountain road with fantastic views across the valley below.

Halfway up the mountain the road ends and you can walk or take a chairlift to the summit – a mountain lake adventure park awaits you in the summer, a ski area in the winter . The last ride up in the summer is at 4:30 PM.

A restaurant serves cold drinks and local specialities overlooking the lake.

There are many fun activities at the "Spielsee", including: wooden rafts, diamond cave and waterfall and a bridge across the lake. Kids and adults can "pan for gold” or use adventure slides.
