I have seven year old twins that shared a room with a bunk bed. They have very different interests and personalities and it was time for them to get their own rooms. But instead of the usual themed rooms (super heroes or sports) I asked them to pick a favorite book or art work and based the color scheme of the room on that choice.
My son Massimo picked his favorite book “city dog, country frog” which has beautiful illustrations from Jon J. Muth. Marco loves going to New York City and we found a cool picture of the city in a silver mist from IKEA. Here are some pictures of their rooms.
Hanging storage, chair and green leaves wall art are from IKEA. I used a curtain rod (also from IKEA) to hang the baskets. Green pouf is from CB2.
Desk and tall cabinet are made by my late husband Gianni and his dad. The bed is from IKEA.
The brown bowl on the top shelf contains “no-knead bread” – which has been rising since last night (this room is the coolest in the house). I will post recipe later today!
PJÄTTERYD picture set from IKEA.
The sofa is also made by Gianni and his dad. Red chair and rug are from IKEA. The room has a skylight and our dog Lily is catching some rays.
I made the “Angry Birds” fleece banket on the sofa. It’s a great pattern and super easy to sew. I’ll share the pattern in the fall or winter.
Desk and book shelves are from Land of Nod – great, compact unit – when space is tight. Chair by Charles and Ray Eames. Available from Herman Miller.
